1913.- Raymond Poincaré es elegido presidente de la República Francesa.

1917.- Estados Unidos compra las Islas Vírgenes a Dinamarca por 25 millones de dólares. La inauguración tuvo lugar el 31 de marzo.

1929.- El popular personaje Popeye aparece por primera vez en una tira cómica en el New York Evening Journal.

1935.- El Consejo de la Sociedad de Naciones acuerda reincorporar la cuenca del Sarre a Alemania.

1961.- Patricio Lumumba, Congolese leader and promoter of the independence of the Congo, is assassinated in Katanga.

1966.- Two US planes collide over the province of Almería, in Spain, and four atomic bombs fall, three near the town of Palomares and another near the capital of Almería. It took three months to find them.

1974.- The Colombian guerrilla April 19 Movement (M-19) steals Bolívar’s sword from the Quinta de Bolívar house-museum in Bogotá.

1991.- Operation Desert Storm begins to force Iraq to withdraw from Kuwait. American planes, in collaboration with other multinational force aircraft, bomb Baghdad.

1994.- An earthquake in Los Angeles (California, USA) causes 68 deaths and material damage of 35 billion dollars.

1995.- An earthquake measuring 7.3 on the Richter scale shakes the Japanese city of Kobe, causing more than 6,400 deaths.

1997.- The biblical city of Hebron, sacred to Jews and Muslims, remains in Palestinian hands after almost thirty years of Israeli occupation.

2000.- The companies Glaxo Wellcome and SmithKline Beecham agree to form the new Glaxo SmithKline group, the largest pharmaceutical company in the world.

2010.- The right-wing Sebastián Piñera wins the presidential elections in Chile, putting an end to twenty years of Concertación governments, made up of center and left parties.

2014.- US President Barack Obama orders an end to espionage on leaders of allied countries and reform the telephone surveillance of the National Security Agency (NSA).

2017.- Obama commutes the sentence of former soldier Chelsea Manning, who leaked secret documents to Wikileaks in 2010 when she was a military intelligence analyst.

2018.- Viorica Dancila (social democrat) becomes the first woman to head the Government of Romania.

2019.- An attack by the National Liberation Army (ELN) against the Police School in Bogotá causes 21 deaths.

2021.- Russian opponent Alexei Navalny is arrested upon returning to Russia, five months after being poisoned.
