1812.- Se conmemora el día de las valientes heroínas de La Coronilla (Cochabamba), Bolivia, mujeres que sacrificaron su vida para defender la ciudad contra las tropas realistas españolas.
1895.- José Martí, fundador del Partido Revolucionario Cubano y muerto en la lucha por la independencia de su país, es sepultado definitivamente en el Cementerio Santa Ifigenia, en Santiago de Cuba.

1905.- Guerra Ruso-Japonesa. La flota japonesa destruye a la rusa en la Batalla Naval de Tsushima.
1912.- Mueren 65 personas y más de un centenar resultan heridas en el incendio del cine La Luz de la localidad castellonense de Villarreal.
1931.- El físico suizo Auguste Piccard realizó el primer vuelo en globo hacia la estratosfera hasta alcanzar la altura récord de 15.971 metros.
1933.- Inauguración de la Exposición Universal de Chicago.
1941.- El acorazado alemán “Bismarck” es hundido por buques de guerra británicos.

2010.- The American Lori Berenson, sentenced in Peru to 20 years in prison for terrorism, leaves the Chorrillos de Lima women’s prison, after serving three quarters of her sentence.
2012.- The Austrian Michael Haneke, Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival.
2015.- Six FIFA leaders arrested in Switzerland accused of corruption.
