“The cancellation of events Drag Story Hour is becoming more common, part of a worrying trend that stigmatizes drag artists (and by extension, people in the LGBTQIA+ community),” Roth noted.

Instead, the presentation of his book Poster Girl It took place this Saturday at the La Mexicana Bookstore, in San Nicolás de los Garza, outside of FIL activities.

Marie Lu, American youth science fiction writer, also issued a message in which she indicated that she was declining her participation after the cancellation of the drag queen story event and that, therefore, the Uranus publishing house would look for a new place for its presentation outside of the FIL.

Now, the author of the Skyhunter saga will have her presentation and autograph signing on Sunday, October 8 at the Rosario Castellanos Bookstore, of the Fondo de Cultura Económica, in Mexico City.

In the same way, the author of Equilibrio, Manu Carbajo, will be at the Rosario Castellanos Bookstore.

“Imagine a childhood, imagine an LGBT+ adolescence that has to face all these things,” said Dani Treviño in relation to the negative comments on social networks about ‘Cuenti Drags’.

“On my part, it would not be consistent to present a story that talks about the impact of discrimination in a place where discrimination occurs. So with a lot of pain I tell you that I am not going to show up on Saturday or Sunday,” she noted in a video published on Instagram.

What did FIL Monterrey say about ‘Cuenti Drags’?

Tale Drag is an initiative inspired by story reading events by drag queens in other countries. With this, we seek to promote respect, diversity and inclusion through reading stories with themes about values, explained Eli García, director of Percha LGBT+, in an interview with The financial.

The FIL of Monterrey, organized by the Tecnológico de Monterrey, initially approved the Cuenti Drag project. However, the organization contacted Percha LGBT+ this week to express that they had received negative comments and threats, without giving further explanations, so He asked the group to modify the event to be labeled “adults only” or to remove the participation of drag queens.

Given the group’s refusal to modify this story reading event open to the public, the FIL of Monterrey unilaterally decided to cancel the event.

“What we ask is that both the institution and the organization of the Book Fair respect what was promised, respect what was agreed, and allow us to continue as we have been planning and how we have been working to keep the event going. They argue that they don’t have the ability to protect the people attending when we really know that they can, however, they don’t want to do it then, eh? This is easily understood as the fact that they do not want to support the diverse population”, considered Eli from Percha LGBT+.
